Condition of the Heart pt 4.

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

1 Kings 18:21 Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people did not answer him a word.

Here's another condition of the heart: A Divided Heart

A divided heart is split, severed- which means to become separated. A part of us wants to serve God and a part of us does not. God is looking for whole hearts.Throughout His Word, God is constantly speaking to His children saying "serve me with a whole heart" and David is a good example of serving God with a whole heart. He wasn’t perfect. He had to deal with the sin in his life but through it all he was constantly seeking after God’s heart.

1 Chronicles 28 New International Version (NIV)David’s Plans for the Temple 28 David summoned all the officials of Israel to assemble at Jerusalem: the officers over the tribes, the commanders of the divisions in the service of the king, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons, together with the palace officials, the warriors and all the brave fighting men.2 King David rose to his feet and said: “Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it. 3 But God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’

David was so humble before God and before his people and shared his heart with them all, letting them know He wanted to build the temple for God but he could not. God choose to give this assignment to his son because he has blood on his hands. How many of us can stand before the people and admit that they have messed up and now have to pay the price?

God gave the assignment in building the temple to David's son Solomon. David encourages his son to love God with a whole heart and to do the works of God.

9 “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 10 Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do the work.”
